Updated Danish translation

Hi,

I have updated the Danish translation:

– main term used for ‘event’ changed
– little bits here and there + various typos and missing translation.

Can I copy these files directly to my local server to get the translation in my calendar? – or do I have to wait for update?
I would also like to QA the translation in context.

But it then ignored the danish file and used the English translation for everything else than the string. So gave a mix of English & Danish.

Anyway, hopefully we can use the fully updated file now 🙂

Hi @museumns,

Thank you for your interest in helping with translating our plugins! Unfortunately, we’re no longer using the original method for accepting or sharing translations via the Translations Forum. We have something much better now, so that more people can contribute and our translations can stay more consistently updated.

We’ve just launched a whole new process for translations and have two write-ups for it here:

Two things to note are:

1 – You do not have to submit an entire translation, you can just submit translations for individual strings. Even if it’s just one string, or something like a spelling correction, it all helps!

2 – Your submitted strings will be saved as “suggestions”, and not immediately included in a translation file for export until an administrator approves them. This may seem like a limitation, but it just helps us ensure nobody comes along and deletes translations or adds spam or something to them. Your suggestions will be approved very promptly.

I have now translated the danish lang file to zero ‘untranslated’ on http://translations.theeventscalendar.com/projects/the-events-calendar and eagerly awaits approval of the corrections and new submissions for impl. On my sites 😉

Thanks OnoLux! I’m curious, why are some of these strings not modified from the original? Does it not make sense to change them within the norms of the Danish language? https://cloudup.com/cc-d_1guDSR

Just curious here – if it would be incorrect to modify those words like “Find” and “Tags”, I’ll approve these items.

I’ll give it an extra whirl – might have missed one or two on the prox 61 pages 8^)
– but then again for some it dont give much meaning to invent a danish word when people dealing with the backend probably will be more puzled with a ‘danglish’ version …

But for the ones on the screendump it is correctly translated. For and For is the same and tags is a common expression in Denmark – say ‘labels’ and it would just be another foereign word that previously made its way into the daily lingo …

… And ‘find’ and ‘find’ are equal as well in both languages – but pronounced differently of c…

Thanks for a great plugin. I translated a lot of this a few days ago. I can see that you have approved everything now. Great! 🙂 But how do I get the new translations? I’m new in wordpress and I can see that I can download the .mo and .po files, but where do I upload them? Do I need to make a new folder on the server? (I would rather not, since I’m not sure how to do that) Can’t I upload the files directly in wordpress somewhere?

Hi George,

Spent almost 2 hours on this + the initial downloading etc on doing it the ‘old way’ – so honestly feel that I have been wasting time – I posted a thread not that long ago when I had problems with opening one of the files – do not understand why nobody gave me a heads up that method was changing….

12 June I had a thread asking about translations – the 18 you change procedure (I made the translations 19, I did not check forums for any updates on how you want this done) – that is not a way to roll out changes in procedure…this is a hassle to get a proper Danish translation

So I had a look at present translations:
– and the main thing – the central word used for ‘event’ / ‘begivenhed’ is still used…this is was I spent a lot of time changing in the above translation.

‘begivenhed’ in Danish is a major/important event – like a wedding, funeral, 50 year birthday, opening of a new museum…

The only place in translation that I left this term is ‘heldagsbegivenhed’ – a whole day event, which is ok

For everything else ‘aktiviteter’ is a much better word.

Calling something like a tour of an exhibition, or guided tour of a town and other small type stuff a ‘begivenhed’ sounds silly and ‘google translatey’

Have not checked out other stuff – I made quite a few translations/corrections…but the other major glaring thing was the ‘read more’ featuring prominently in the calender front page being translated to ‘lean more’ ‘Lær mere’.. sounded equally silly in Danish…

So right now we have badly translated Danish & English mix on our calender (re the above issue from the latest update)…sigh looks unprofessional…
