We’re implementing The Events Calendar Pro with EDD Tickets for a client whose events are marketed internationally. I have 2 questions about how the plugins handle timezones.

    1. The first has to do with how the start and end dates and times for events relate to timezones. I just did a test where I exported the ical entry for an event, with the WordPress timezone setting at UTC, and then changed WordPress’s timezone to New York, and repeated the export. In both cases the event came into my local calendar for the same time. So do the plugins store any timezone info with the event, or is the time independent of zone, and we have to be clear in how we communicate the location in the even description to make sure people know what’s going on.

    2. EDD Tickets has an start and end date for when a ticket is effective. Are those dates tied to the site’s local time, or how can we know when a ticket will expire and no longer be offered?

    Thanks,

    Barry

    Hi Barry,

    Some great questions there 🙂

The event dates/times (and ticket sale dates/times) are timezone independent. In other words, they inherit whatever the timezone setting is for WordPress itself.

So, if you’re in a situation where this might be ambiguous for your users, then yes – it could be worth clarifying the actual timezone.

    Does that answer your question?

Hi! It’s been a while so I’m going to go ahead and close this thread. If we can help with anything else, though, please don’t hesitate to create new threads as needed. Thanks!
