I’m afraid that is correct — tickets and recurring events currently do not play well together.
The good news, however, is that we are working on that feature as we speak. It’s on our roadmap and could come as early as 4.3 if all things go according to plan.
In the meantime, I’d suggest adding your vote to the feature request — that will allow you to subscribe to notifications when progress is made on it.
