ParticipantHi there,
I’m using TEC PRO and WPML. My site is in English and French and I’m using “Different languages in directories”.
For example:
http://blabasldfsa.ca/en/ – English,
http://blabasldfsa.ca/fr/ – FrenchI’m using the Headway theme and am getting a 404 error when I try to edit the eventscalendar pages in Headway’s visual editor… this is because the “page” for the events calendar is at /eventscalendar, rather than /en/eventscalendar.
Is there any way for me to specify that I want the English events calendar at URL /en/eventscalendar and the French events calendar at URL /fr/horaire ??? Is there any way to accomplish this for those of us with WPML sites?
I’ve read the other forum discussions on this topic and I am admittedly still confused and don’t understand the proposed workarounds, if they exist.
I have been using TEC since last November on my live site and it only exists in English. Now that I’m working on a new site I’m in desperate need for this calendar to show up in French also.
I also still haven’t figured out how to show the events and the calendar in French… if there are instructions anywhere on this that I’ve missed, I’d be grateful if you can point me to them.
Thank you!

MemberHi Kristin,
Thanks for getting in touch. At this time I am afraid we are unable to support integration with WPML – we do realize it is a widespread plugin and one that is important to many websites – however at this time the structure of each plugin is such that they seem not to mesh very nicely.
We do plan to work with the team behind WPML to make things smoother, though, and it may be that you can solicit help from their own support channels.
Sorry we can’t do more on this occasion.

ParticipantLet’s assume I abandon WPML and do a multisite install instead with two sub-sites, one for English, one for French. Can I activate the TEC plugin on each sub-site and have one French calendar and one English calendar? Do you know if anyone has done this successfully?
Thanks!!

MemberGreat question. You should definitely be able to set up two subsites and use The Events Calendar on each.
I’m afraid I’m not familiar enough with multisite to say if there is a straightforward way to set the language differently for each site, however.

ParticipantIf the plugin is activated on each sub-site, does it still count as one installation? Or would I need to upgrade my license just to test this out? If I can’t set the language differently for each sub-site, I’ll have to find another plugin. Sadly.
I’m new to multisite as well… before I switch to multisite, I’m verifying whether the plugins I use currently are still going to work, and if they’ll work the way I need them to. 🙂

MemberSo right now though our view is that so long as you have one license to cover the “main” site (in a multisite context) that is fine.
To the practical matter of setting up sites for different languages my colleague Rob hit upon this thread which is definitely relevant:
Does that help at all?

ParticipantThanks! Still hoping I can set the language for TEC PRO plugin differently for each sub-site. Fingers crossed! 🙂

MemberFingers are crossed on our side, too. Also courtesy of Rob, again quite relevant here:

ParticipantThanks! The multisite installation and having different languages on the sub-sites is all ok. My concern is with the TEC PRO plugin specifically… I need the events and calendar to be in French on one sub-site and in English on another sub-site.
According to the TEC installation FAQ, “Events Calendar PRO adapts itself to the language your WordPress install is using. It will default to English, unless you run WP in a different language — in which case the calendar will reflect that. ”
I want to use WordPress in English only on all my sub-sites. Is there a way to change the language of the TEC plugin *without* changing the language of the WP install?
Thanks!

MemberHmm … well the fact is that isn’t a request we see every day.
I’d imagine though that the process would be no different to targeting any other plugin in a similar fashion. One way that comes to mind is to use gettext filters (all translated strings can be filtered and modified) – however that would mean testing every translatable string (not just those belonging to The Events Calendar) to check what domain it belongs to and then go from there (ie, if it is one of ours then pull it from the French .mo file, etc).
However, I’m afraid this is way beyond what we can support and I would have to leave it to you to build this specific solution.
