ParticipantWe recently upgraded one of our sites we pushed live to the 4.0.3 versions of all the plugins (Event Calendar, Event Calendar Pro, and Community Events) from 4.0.2 to 4.0.3. We noticed that upon upgrading anyone below administrator status can now longer add new venue details / organizers through the community events add event page. Overtime “add a new organizer” is selected it auto selects one from the list and won’t allow for an addition. Also the venue drop down has no option for adding a new venue. This is not the case in 4.0.2 which has the desired effect of allowing the subscribe to add a new venue / organizer from the the community add page.
We disabled all plugins on yourper.com but a better example can be found here (http://comeventtest.wpengine.com/events/community/add) the user account for you guys to test is (user: testuser, pass: pass1234). This demonstrates the issue with a subscriber account on a fresh install of wordpress
Thanks for your time

ParticipantHey Joshua,
Thanks for reaching out to us!
This appears to be a known bug and we’ve already got an internal ticket created for this one. I’ve added this thread to that ticket and you’ll be notified here as we make progress on this one.
Let me know if you have any questions or concerns about the process.
Thanks!

ParticipantGood to hear that you guys are already working on this bug! Do you know when this will be resolved and will it just be pushed out as a minor version update?

ParticipantHey Joshua,
We don’t currently have another maintenance release planned however the next update (4.1) is scheduled to be released in February. Barring any unexpected issues with development or the QA process it should be released then.
Thanks!

ParticipantI’m having this error as well. Are you seriously saying an issue this major for the COMMUNITY feature being unable to have anyone below administrator add two of the fields?! We’re using this tool on http://www.submissions.ninja to create a crowd-sourced list of Playwriting opportunities… without a venue or organizer this renders any submissions impossible to complete?! Please escalate this through your “internal QA” — we cannot be waiting until February for an update like this.

ParticipantHey Laura,
I apologize for the inconvenience here. We have a process for managing these types of issues and they have to go through a full release cycle.
If you would like, you could temporarily address this issue by removing the capability check for rendering the Organizer and Venue Fields. The files associated here can be found within the “Admin” folder within the core Events Calendar plugin. There are files for the “Organizer” and “Venue” Meta Boxes and you can remove the “current_user_can()” conditionals that you see in those files. There is documentation within the files to help you see where those checks are and ensure you’re removing the right conditionals.
Thanks!

ParticipantI appreciate the hacky fix, but genuinely am shocked that you’re not escalating this issue higher. It’s one of the core features of a community function (and a big part of all your marketing as a feature!)
Can we get an indication of the date that this will be corrected? Thanks

ParticipantLaura,
I did find a non-code way around this. I’ll admit it doesn’t even really make sense to me but it works.
In the Community Events settings, under the Members section make sure the edit and remove their submissions checkbox’s are checked. This allows the non-admin user to add/edit the venues and organizer.

ParticipantHey Joshua,
Thanks for adding this additional information! The conditional for the output is set to the “create” capability but this also makes sense that it would also get added when the ability to edit is added.
Thanks!
