Since the update, both the events calendar widget and events list widget are showing incorrect times, but only for my reoccurring events. When I select the event to view or edit, the correct times are shown. It is only in either one of the widgets that the times are incorrect. Each of the events seem to show dates that are 4 hours later in the widget, than the actual time I have set for the event. You can see the widget here: resonline.org/listen

The first thing to do here – because there were a few bugs in our 3.5 builds – is ensure you are using the very latest builds for The Events Calendar and Events Calendar PRO (both should be 3.5.1).

Can you confirm you are using those versions/is this still an issue with those in place?

Yes, both plugins are up to date.

I also noticed it it not just in the widget i am having this problem, but in the calendar month and list view as well. Only the first of reoccurring events shows the correct time.

OK: can you point me to a specific example in that case?

I did look at month view, but the recurring events seemed to be in order. I did notice though that some have been “split” into two different chains (a tell tale in these situations being the event URL has a numeric suffix, such as event-slug-2 or event-slug-3) … so, perhaps someone edited a recurring event partway through the sequence and inadvertently applied the change to all future events. Could that be the source of confusion here?

The calendar can be found at resonline.org/events but it looks like you already found it. For example, the event titled, “The Gathering” is listed at the correct time, 7:30-8:30pm on April 14, but then incorrect on April 21, showing 11:30pm-12:30am. However, if you click on either event and view the single event, the correct time is shown. The same error shows in the widget and list view for all reoccurring events. This first shows correct, but the rest are exactly 4 hours late.

I am the only one with access to the website, so it isn’t possible that someone edited an event. And again, it is happening with every single reoccurring event. I believe the only split events are the Women’s Bible Study ones. Those are meant to be split, but are still having the same issue.

Ahh, I see. Yes that is odd. The reason (and possibly part of the problem) that the correct times show when you click through is that it is redirecting to the original event in the sequence … what happens if you edit that event, make a minor change to the recurrence pattern and update it – then restore the original pattern and update the entire chain one more time? Does that rectify this?

I realize that’s less than ideal, but it might also help us to get a handle on what’s happening.

I edited one of the reoccurring event series (The Gathering), changing it to a single event, but this didn’t change anything on the calendar. All the events are still showing up every week. I even emptied my caches. I also reapplied the weekly occurrence, and still nothing has changed.

OK – what happens if you create a brand new recurring event? Does it work as expected and could you potentially delete The Gathering and recreate it afresh?

I have tried this already. All new reoccurring events have the same issue. Actually, The Gathering was my test. I noticed the issue before posting that event, so I tried to make a brand new event, totally different times, date, and name…same problem.

OK, to ensure we’ve covered all the bases (it doesn’t look best I can tell like your theme was covered in the troubleshooting you conducted earlier) could I ask you to:

    • Deactivate all other plugins
    • Simultaneously, switch to a default, unmodified theme such as Twenty Thirteen
    • Create a new recurring test event
    • Does it behave as expected?

Could you also reply with a copy of your system information as found in the Events Help screen (near the bottom)?

Thanks so much for you continued patience while we work through this 🙂

After deactivating plugins and switching to Twenty Thirteen, the new reoccurring event does not seem to have this problem and behaves as expected. I will be switching the theme back though so our church members can access info.

By using my current theme and deactivating one plug in at a time and creating an event, I have discovered that when I deactivate the plug-in “Series Engine” the new reoccurring event does not have this issue. This is a the next most important plugin that we use for our site next to Event Calendar Pro, so not using it isn’t an option. We haven’t had this issue before with Series Engine and I do know for certain that the issue showed up when Event Calendar Pro was updated.

So…now that I am almost certain this is the issue, what needs to be done to fix it?

OK: can you link me to Series Engine (I may be missing it but am not seeing it in the wordpress.org plugin directory) – and if it is not freely available can you additionally reply with a link where we can download it, perhaps by posting a private reply with a download link?
