Linda
ParticipantHi
I have just purchased PRO and have already run into an issue I’m hoping you can help me with.
I have many events which are recurring (hence why I upgraded!) however I need these events to fall into different event categories and I cannot find a way to make this happen. At the moment if I try to amend one of the events it breaks it out of the series which I do not want. For example….
Event ABC takes place weekly from April to September.
I have the following event categories – All Events | April Events | May Events | June Events | July Events | August Events | Summer Events | September Events
So I create the recurring event and include it in all events. However this is where my problem comes in. I now need all the April ABC event dates to go under All Events and April Events, all the May ABC event dates to go under All Events and May Events and so on….
But I cant seem to do this. If I try to edit one of the single dates it says “You are about to break this event out of its series. You will be able to edit it independently of the original series. This action cannot be undone.” And if I continue and edit it then it no longer shows in the recurring list.
Can you advise how I can achieve this with the PRO version?
Thanking you in advance.

ParticipantHey Linda,
Thanks for reaching out to us!
Unfortunately the current state of recurring events is that they must all be completely identical, including the category. There is some internal talk about modifying this approach as well as a UserVoice page that you can vote on this feature for an upcoming release (http://tribe.uservoice.com/forums/195723-feature-ideas/suggestions/6836617-option-on-recurring-events-which-allows-the-event).
In the meantime, the best approach may be to add the recurring events month by month so you can assign all the events for the month to the associated category.
I apologize for the inconvenience. If you have any further questions about this issue please don’t hesitate to ask.
Thanks!

ParticipantThanks for the response and the clarification. I do think the possibility of being able to modify the events individually and assign to different categories would be good along with the option of random dates that don’t follow a specific pattern such as weekly or monthly. I’ve just upgraded to pro because I have so many recurring events however so far it’s been of little use to me either because I have to assign to monthly categories (so have to go back in and amend each one anyway and thus breaking them out of the series) or because my dates are so random for recurring that they cannot be used even on custom. I love this events calendar so I really hope that these are some things you may look at implementing shortly. If you do, perhaps on the custom recurrence you could have a pop up calendar whereby you simply click the dates you need, that would help alot also!
Many thanks for your help and I look forward to hopefully some exciting changes!January 29, 2015 at 9:32 pm #938944Josh
ParticipantHey Linda,
Thanks for following up with us!
If you had a chance to hit the UserVoice link (http://tribe.uservoice.com/forums/195723-feature-ideas/suggestions/6836617-option-on-recurring-events-which-allows-the-event), we’ll notify you there as we look into the options for modifying the approach to recurring. Also, the idea for a datepicker for more random custom recurrences is a great idea! I’ll run that by our team first thing in the morning.
Thanks!
