    Hi there,

I am getting this error at the top of the WordPress backend (which so many others appear to have gotten, as well):

“The following plugins are out of date: Events Calendar PRO 3.9.1. All add-ons contain dependencies on The Events Calendar and will not function properly unless paired with the right version.”

My license key expired back in February, but I didn’t figure that I needed any ongoing support (as long the the plugin still works). I don’t want to pay $60 for another year of licensing needlessly — yet, I keep getting that nag at the top of the screen, and it’s driving me nuts.

This whole issue also came up because my client was trying to set up a recurring event; when they go to save their event, they get a pop-up that says “You must select a recurrence end date” even though they’ve set an end date and selected “Every Week” from the Recurrence drop-down menu.

The most confusing thing is the verbiage of how that main error is worded — that the base Events Calendar and Events Calendar PRO versions need to match up, but that makes no sense to me! The latest EC that I can see available from the WordPress repositories is 3.12.3, and the latest PRO version (which I just downloaded and manually installed) is 3.9.1. Those *in no way* match up, so that message to make them match seems so infuriating. (Am I missing something here?)

Do I have to buy a license to fix these issues? And what versions of both the base and Pro plugin should I be using?

    Howdy artmildesign,

First of all, I am sorry this message was not clear and is causing you a pain. You do not need to purchase a new license if you don’t wish to get continued support.

The error is correct, the versions need to match. If you don’t plan to update Pro (which requires a license) then you must keep The Events Calendar on the 3.9.3 version. You can download past versions of The Events Calendar here: https://wordpress.org/plugins/the-events-calendar/developers/ Once you have a past version you can install it, thus “downgrading”. A full tutorial can be found here: https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/downgrading-plugin-past-version/

When you downgrade you may notice error messages when editting recurring events. If you reselct the recurrence schedule and hit Save/Update, the error messages will go away.

    Does that all make sense?

    Cheers!

    Hi Brook,

Thanks for the follow up. The piece of the puzzle that’s missing in the error message is a link to here ( https://wordpress.org/plugins/the-events-calendar/developers/) which you provided to me in your response above; I had no idea where to get past versions of the plugin in order to make them match up.

(I wouldn’t have thought to click the “Developers” tab on the plugin’s WP.org page, so maybe renaming that “Downloads” or “Versions” or something would help? In my research of the issue, I saw my question asked a LOT of times, and I think your response and link would have helped many people solve this issue more quickly if it were front and center on your support forums.) 😉

Thanks for the feedback artmil. I will keep that in mind.

I am glad it is working for you. Happy calendaring!
