It appears that the links to my single events are no longer working after an update to the newest versions of event calendar and event calendar pro. Here is a link to the calendar page…

    http://thecrossingchurch.com/calendar/

You can see that when you click on some of the links they work and some of the others return a 404 error.

This link works http://thecrossingchurch.com/event/gracefulwait-ministry-monthly-meeting/2014-01-15/ while this one doesn’t

It appears that the recurring event links are working and the non recurring event ones are not working. I flushed permalink settings, but to no avail. Thoughts?

Ok quick update when I created a test event it shows this link http://thecrossingchurch.com/event/test-event/ as the permalink for the event, it shows this on the main calendar and even in the wp-admin.

However this is what the link should be.

    Hi psasser,

I see what you mean and the information regarding recurring / non-recurring events is helpful. I have heard of this before and am going to log it as a bug. Hang tight while we look into the situation!

Any word on this? Just checking in. Need to get it resolved as my event links don’t work. Thanks thanks.

    Hi psasser,

I apologize for the delay in getting back to you. First off, after taking a closer look it seems that this is different than the bug I had in mind, so it may not be a bug at all. You mentioned that the permalink should include the date (/test-event/2014-01-10/, but that is not the case. The permalinks should not have the date in them. Do you have other plugins you are running on the site? Have you tried disabling them? Or reverting to the default TwentyTwelve theme? Perhaps it’s a plugin conflict that is causing the trouble. Can you try that and let me know if it made any difference?

No problem on the delay. I have several other plugins on the other site. I deactivated those plugins and it still didn’t work. I also changed the theme back to the default and it still didn’t work. I reverted The Events Calendar and the Events Calendar Pro to version 3.2 and it started to work again. Any thoughts on why this would have started to work? Thanks.

Good information there. Thanks for that. Can I ask what your permalink setting is under Settings > Permalink?

Post name is chosen, so permalinks look like this http://thecrossingchurch.com/sample-post/

    psasser,

Sorry for the delay, but I’m going to have one of our more dev-minded folks take a look at this and get back to you.

Hi psasser: on taking a look this morning the problem links – which I understood to be non-recurring events, including your test event – appear to be working. Has something changed / are we all good here, or is there something else I need to look at?

    I’m having a similar problem.

Sorry to hear that, nicleics. If you are referring to the problem you described in this thread I think that may be something different in your case: let’s continue to progress that there. Thanks!

Hey Barry: I don’t think that we are good here yet. The reason that it is working is because I rolled back the events calendar and the events calendar pro to version 3.2 and it started working again. So I’m thinking that it has to do with the newest version of those plugins. Thoughts? I don’t really want to install the newest versions of those plugins to duplicate the issue because it breaks the links on my site. Thanks.

    I can definitely understand that.

As we can’t replicate locally though it’s difficult to get to the bottom of this. All I could really suggest at this point is installing a new WordPress installation and setting things up with only our plugins and nothing else: then see if this problem still occurs. This would almost be the reverse of our ordinary troubleshooting steps, because you would be starting with nothing and building up from there to mimic the stack of plugins and theme(s) running on your live site.

You could do this locally if you have a local environment set up, and/or you could even do it in a subdirectory on the same hosting account as your live site.

If you find things don’t work with anything else running on a new test installation then that would indicate it is an environmental problem – particularly relevant if you run the test in a subdirectory in the same hosting account – and that your hosting environment needs to be tweaked or perhaps (but hopefully not) it may indicate that it is simply unsuitable. On the other hand, you might find you can rebuild the same stack and it works perfectly (which might indicate the issue is somewhere within the database of the live site). Or the problem could lie in between those states – either way, this approach would give us some useful information, though I appreciate it may not be something you can jump on immediately and that you may even prefer to await the next release of our plugins before attempting this.

Does that sound viable here/make sense?

Ok I think that I may have gotten something figured out on this. I created a fresh WordPress install here…
    http://patricksasser.com/crossing33/

I installed newest version of events calendar and events calendar pro and my test event was working
    http://patricksasser.com/crossing33/event/test-event/

I installed the plugins on the site that isn’t working one at a time and narrowed it down to this plugin.
    http://wordpress.org/plugins/ultimate-post-type-manager/

When I installed the ultimate post type manager that link above just stopped working altogether and you had to type in the date at the end of the URL to make it work. I deactivate the plugin and things still didn’t work, I was still getting a 404 on that test event page. So I went to the permalink settings and flushed them by just clicking update and it started to work again.

So anyway it looks like the post type manager plugin is causing the issue. Any thoughts on why this would be happening or a way to fix it?

Well, based on what you’re telling me it sounds like it modifies the rewrite rules – which, essentially, dictate how URLs are interpreted – to achieve its goals (but doesn’t necessarily clean them up when its deactivated, which isn’t uncommon) and that perhaps it also adds rules which are both general enough and execute early enough that they to stop our own rules from being observed.

Realistically we can’t guarantee compatibility with all third party plugins: this one seems to have attracted a reasonable following but by no means a large following in the scheme of things and additionally seems to have been abandoned:

This plugin hasn’t been updated in over 2 years. It may no longer be maintained or supported and may have compatibility issues when used with more recent versions of WordPress.

With that in mind I don’t think we are going to be able to allocate resources toward improving compatibility with this plugin and would suggest instead finding an actively supported and developed plugin with whatever capabilities you need here or else working with a suitable developer to resolve the issues specifically to meet your needs.

Sorry we can’t offer more for this one.
