Merge duplicate venue/organizer confusion

Hello!

Our community calendar is falling prey to duplicate venues syndrome. I used the “merge duplicate venue/organizers” button and managed to knock out about 80 of them. The remaining duplicates weren’t really duplicates — the information is slightly different. After going through and making sure all the info was the same, I was hoping to be able to use the handy “merge” button to take care of them, but it’s nowhere to be found.

According to some previous threads, the merge was a one-time thing. The knowledgebase also describes it as such.

But according to this post in the uservoice section, the button should now be showing all the time, not just once.

Should it be appearing for me? Is it in another place now? Do I need more duplicates? Need to wait a bit?

Hi William. Thanks for linking to that UserVoice thread. As it says there, the button is now always visible. It’s at wp-admin > Events > Settings > General tab > Duplicate Venues & Organizers

Of course, it’s always good to take a database backup before clicking such a button.

I don’t see the merge button in its previous location. Are there any necessary conditions to get it to appear after it’s used once? I tried creating a bunch of duplicates to test if duplicates needed to be present for it to show up, no luck.

William, although this code is untested, it looks like something you could use to bring back the merge button:

Note that, by default, once you click the Merge button, it’ll go away and this code should set the “go away” from true to false.
