Map View shows one venue by St Louis (wrong) it's correct on actual event page

Had to resurrect this thread (https://theeventscalendar.com/support/forums/topic/map-view-shows-one-venue-in-st-louis-wrong-its-correct-on-actual-event-page/#post-991256) to get back to George with an answer since the support droid auto closed the thread before I responded (I took too long to respond).

George’s finishing question: “If you specify the state, and then save the venue again, does anything improve here?”

There was one venue without a state, so I got excited and fixed that.

Alas the problem still exists. In fact the misplaced map marker near St. Louis does have a state specified and it also shows correctly on the event page and google maps link.

Found the problem! There is an Alton MO, and for some reason TEC uses the correct Alton IL when viewing the event or google map, but when in Map View for all events, it gets Alton wrong every time!

In fact this error occurs with any address in Alton IL, and even setting “Use latitude + longitude:” with the correct coordinates does not fix the problem.

To reproduce the problem just add a venue: 1798 Annex St. Alton IL 62002 and see map view put that pointer near St. Louis.

Thank you for your persistence with this issue, and for sharing what you found to be the problem here – that behavior is very odd!

I’m sorry to bear the bad news that this is unfortunately an issue that we can’t really do much about at the moment. The Google Maps API itself has changed a bit and we’ve identified numerous types of odd, inconsistent behavior with our Map View. Some of it is because of the API itself, but some of it is because of our implementation of the API.

Fixing these Map View inconsistencies is one of the major things we are focusing on for our forthcoming 4.0 update, but I don’t know when that will arrive for general use 🙁

Until then, I’m sorry to admit, there’s not much that be done here.

I will pass this specific problem along to the developers and, who knows, maybe some sort of hotfix solution can be put together just for this odd issue – however, this is very unlikely and I cannot promise anything. I just want to you to know that we’re at least trying to fix this as fast as possible.
