MemberHi, I am wondering where the heading for the list view is pulled in?
I can’t see it in List.php. I am using Pagelines 2.0 and the “tribe events archive template” for my content area simply features the post loop section. However when I view the list it not only pulls in the heading and category but also the feature or image from the first event in the list. I simply want to remove this and just have the heading. Its as if the list page is pulling in some info from the “tribe events” template. Is there some way I can control this? I hope this makes sense.June 26, 2012 at 9:40 am #21180Joyce Grace
MemberHi Rachel, can you link to your site for me to have a look?
Your theme might be pulling post thumbnails – have you tried disabling this?
If it is not post thumbnails, a plugin I like to use to control how excerpt show up on category archives is Advanced Excerpt. In its settings you can ask it to not reserve images in the formatting.
If you are comfortable with some coding, I would definitely check out our Themer’s Guide to customizing the Events Calendar: https://theeventscalendar.com/themers-guide-to-the-events-calendar/ – that should give you the direction you need to control the look of the events list.
Let me know if any of this helps!

MemberHi Joyce, its not live yet but you can see the list here: http://tinyurl.com/6wdhhav and for subcategories under “whats on”. I’m not sure disabling post thumbnails is an option as i want them to appear for the events and news posts. And its not just the thumbnails that appear on the master lists – its the post specific features (meta that I set within the individual post).
So its as is the template for the archives takes on elements of the template for the post. does that make sense?? I’ve already done alot of customisation using the themers guide however I just can’t figure out how to edit the heading area and where to find it in the code. I think it has something to do with the way pagelines adopts the templates. Hopefully that sheds some more light on the issue.

MemberI also just noticed that the “upcoming event list”(events/upcoming/) calls on the tribe events template whereas the subcategory lists(eg events/category/theatre/) call on the tribe archive template. not sure if that helps?

MemberHi Rachel,
I do hope to help you out with this. I’m not sure what specifically you are trying to get rid of. In your original post you talked about the photo: “t not only pulls in the heading and category but also the feature or image from the first event in the list. I simply want to remove this and just have the heading.”
So I’m not exactly sure which part you want to get rid of.
On this page, I see there is an extra photo at the top – is that intentional? http://101.0.66.80/~glenstre/events/category/theatre/
Or are you trying to get rid of the start dates and costs on this page: http://101.0.66.80/~glenstre/events/upcoming/ ?
If you can let me know I’ll try to help out, and if I can’t do it, I’ll see if a higher level of support can help. We don’t normally provide support for this type of customization, but I’ll see what I can do.
Thanks!

MemberHi Joyce – yes sorry – its tricky one.
In answer to your question – yes – the extra pic – that is the duplicate is the one I want to get rid of. It is the featured image in the first event so I think it is somehow pulling from there? The same thing happens for any category pages which use the archive template. But just to confuse things the main list http://101.0.66.80/~glenstre/events/upcoming/ seems to pull in a different element from the first event. And in this case my admin bar shows it is using the single event template which is odd as it is an event list.
If it helps below are links to what I see in the template setup in pagelines:
http://tinyurl.com/84kbhdl
http://tinyurl.com/6rbrc47
I’ve also posted in the pagelines forum to better understand how the post loop section behaves as I think it may have something to do with that.
thanks for persevering 🙂June 28, 2012 at 12:15 am #21275Rachel
MemberHI Joyce,
just letting you know I figured out the issue on the subcategory pages – it was a pagelines “Post Thumbnail Placement” setting that fixed it. Still not sure what is going on with the main upcoming event category page yet but at least that is one problem solved!June 28, 2012 at 2:31 am #21276Rachel
MemberMe again – I think I’ve further isolated the problem which may help. Basically the Event list view (/events/upcoming/) is calling on the Tribe events template rather than the Tribe events archive template that is used of subcategory lists. Is that the correct template it should be calling on?
I guess a way I could get around it is to make a new category called “upcoming” and assign all events to that. But I’m wondering if there is a more elegant solution? If not then I understand – it is hard to cater to every possible framework and theme.

MemberHello Rachel,
Yes, this is a theme specific issue, and I’m glad you got it mostly worked out!I am still not understanding this sentence though: “But just to confuse things the main list http://101.0.66.80/~glenstre/events/upcoming/ seems to pull in a different element from the first event”
When you say “different element from the first event” – what is the “element”? and what do you mean by “from the first event”? Each event should have its own photo, start date, etc., Are you referring to the embedded YouTube video that shows on top of that page? Did you want to remove that?
However, I would say to try different templates under Settings > The Events Calendar > Templates and see if any of those help. You seem pretty far along in your customization though, so I wouldn’t want you to have to re-do or break anything.
Otherwise creating a new category might be the simplest solution….however I have to admit I’m still not sure what you’re trying to fix, or take out.

MemberHi Joyce,
Sorry it is so hard trying to communicate what I mean. Yes I’m referring to the youtube video which is a post specific element (so I choose that video in the pagelines meta settings).
The main upcoming list uses the events single page template rather than the list template which why it’s getting pulled in (I think).
It sounds like its some clash with the pagelines templating and I’ve solved the issue that was bugging me most so if I can’t fix just this one at least I know there is a workaround. Thanks for your help on this – I think just talking it through on the forum actually helped me figure some of it out. Cheers.July 3, 2012 at 1:00 am #21435Joyce Grace
MemberHi Rachel!
That’s great, it sounds like you’ve figured it out 🙂
Yes, you’re right, this is theme specific, so you’d have to work on it on that end.
