    Hello,

fortunately we did the update to 3.0.4 on a staging system, where we found that the look and feel changed completely. Sorry to say, but it’s terrible (whatever style we use – the best seems to be the “complete style”). How can we achieve the clear layout from v2? Our customer certainly will be unhappy with a teaser text in the list view, which consists of a chain of words (instead of using the existing HTML-elements).
    TIA,
    Heinz

    Hi Heinz,

To clarify, are you looking to revert to the 2.0.11 build or did you want some help customizing the calendar so the 3.x build looks more like the 2.x build? Because 3.0 is such a big step from 2.0.11, it often needs a bit of work to integrate with a theme or any existing customizations. We can probably help point you in the right direction.

For the issue with list view that you mentioned- have you tried using the WordPress excerpt field? Unless the theme conflicts in some way, whatever text you put in the excerpt field will show as the description in list view. Does that help with that issue?

    Best,
    Leah

Meanwhile my customer has seen the v3-layout, and she is unhappy with that. That means either we keep v2.0.11 on the production system forever, or you can provide something like a “v2-theme”. The only optimized element, she thinks, is the name of the month as header in the list view. Else she said it looks more confusing now.
For all events we never used the excerpt field, it’s empty. In the v2 list view the html-tags from the event text are kept correctly, but in v3 they are ignored. Is this a feature or a bug?
    Regards,
    Heinz

    Hi Heinz,

I’m sorry to hear your customer doesn’t like the new look. We don’t have anything like a v2 theme or another way to get v3 looking like v2. It sounds like your best bet might be to either to stay with 2.0.11 or to work on customizing v3 yourself to get it matching what she wants. If you’re interested in that route you might check out our Themer’s Guide, Intro to Template Overrides, and new documentation. We’ll do what we can to help you with the process.

Another option you have is to revert to the Classic Header in v3. That option is in Events –> Settings under Display. Instead of the new search bar, you’ll see something more like the dropdowns from v2.

For the list view description issue- if the excerpt field is not used, the description for list view is generated automatically from the event description. However, it will strip out any html in their, since the automated cut could interfere with html tags anyway. If you use the excerpt field and add html there, the tags should carry through and work on the front end.

Let me know if there’s anything else I can do here to help out.

    Best,
    Leah

    Hi Leah,
thank you. Is there a way to programmatically avoid the HTML stripping (in order to achieve something like in v2 without usage of the exceprt fields)?
    Thank you,
    Heinz

BTW: “If you use the excerpt field and add html there, the tags should carry through and work on the front end.”
Seriously? The customer should learn HTML? Can’t you leave that decision to the customers (by providing a checkbox for HTML yes/no)?

    Hi Heinz,

I chatted with our devs and it sounds like you can avoid the HTML stripping with some customization. That’s really on the WordPress side of things, but if you search for html tags in WordPress excerpt on Google you’ll get some good stuff. (This might be a good place to start).

You could also look into customizing the list view itself. The event calendar uses the WP Default . You could potentially do a template override on single-event.php to change to: , so the List View would spit out the full description, html elements and all.

Hopefully the above will give you a solution that works for you and your client.

    Best,
    Leah
