ParticipantHow do I hide my theme’s side bar on a single event page like http://www.ncmaboston.org/event/website-go-live/
Looked at the Themer’s Guide and it didn’t make sense to me. I’d be fine with using my theme’s full-width layout for all Event related pages but since there isn’t an ‘Event’s page in WP to set that page template, I’m not sure where is being set.August 5, 2013 at 4:59 pm #58939Barry
MemberHave you tried changing the template setting in Events > Settings > Display (or Events > Settings > Template if you are still using 2.0.11)? You might want to try playing around with that setting a little.
If you need further help could you also confirm if you have made the jump to our 3.x series? Certainly going forward from this point the amount of support we will be able to offer for 2.0.11 and older releases is going to diminish, as we focus on and build our resources around 3.x – so updating would definitely be a good thing in that regard, plus it has many fantastic new features 🙂

ParticipantI tried changing the template setting and it didn’t do anything. Yes, still at 2.0.11 after upgrading and having issues. Would upgrading allow me to hide the side bar? Client likes the look of the current version so hate to rock the boat. How much do things shift visually and how can I ensure a safe, problem free upgrade to 3.0?

MemberOur demo site gives some good insight into how things look with 3.0:
If you are worried about problems and want the client’s site to receive as little interruption as possible you could always stage the update in a duplicate environment, resolve any problems there and then roll it out to the live site.
(If the staging environment is web accessible you could also seek help from us in resolving any problems before they are pushed to the live site. You don’t necessarily need a separate server or hosting account for this, you could potentially do it in a subdirectory installation of WordPress.)
