Hi, I’m seeing the same issue as in this thread: https://tri.be/support/forums/topic/canceling-tickets-an-stock-count/

I think the question was misunderstood as the statement in the ‘answer’ isn’t correct – WooCommerce deals with the inventory correctly, WooCommerce Tickets doesn’t. It’s not a WooCommerce issue but a WooCommerce Tickets issue.

So if you have an inventory of 20 of product X, you sell 3 and refund 1 in WooCommerce and ‘increase line stock’ of the item to put the ticket back in inventory, WooCommerce will give an alert that reflects the prover inventory change. Then you can go into to the products listing and the inventory number will correctly be reflected.

But in Events -> Attendees (for a particular event), it will say ‘Sold 3 of out of 21’ instead of ‘2 out of 20’ which would reflect the proper inventory. So WooCommerce Tickets is actually improperly updating the number available while not updating the number sold.

Don’t see how this can possibly be a WooCommerce issue, unless there is a way to properly refund tickets within WooCommerce Tickets and add them back to the inventory – but don’t see that anywhere.

Hi, John. Thanks for the detailed inquiry! 🙂 I really appreciate how thorough you are.

It is my understanding that the way that the two plugins interact is the limiting factor, but I’m happy to put in a query to our dev team so that I can get a definitive answer for you. Please bear in mind that with the holidays almost upon us, it may take a few days for a response, but I’ll get back to you when I hear more.

Thanks for being a WooCommerce Tickets user! 🙂

Hi, John. Thanks for your patience while we got things straight on this one.

The crux of the matter is that when you refund a ticket (using WooCommerce), that doesn’t necessarily put it back into stock. There are in fact times where you may want to refund the purchase price of the ticket and continue to honor it.

As such, even though there are ways to compute the number of tickets that you’re talking about showing (the total less any that are refunded), we can’t rely on that always being the desired outcome for our users.

A couple of options are open to you here:

    1. You could create something on the backend of your site to compute the value of tickets (total and sold) based on what you’ve described (total – refunded). That’s outside of the scope of this forum, but if that’s something you feel comfortable tackling on your own, we’re happy to help if you get stuck along the way.
    2. You could post a suggestion on our User Voice forum page. We prioritize features based on the response they receive there. If there is a call from the community to implement this sort of logic, we’re happy to consider it.

Hope that clears up any confusion!

    Hi Kelly —

Thank you. Really do appreciate your well-considered reply – it makes a lot of sense that this is a bit more subtle than I originally thought. You’re absolutely right. Let me mull this over – if I decide to take a crack at coding something, I’ll definitely reach out to the devs with questions…

And I’ll almost certainly post a suggestion as well, though as you say maybe one that is a little more broad than my original request.

We’re new to selling tickets on the site, so this “issue” might not even come up very often, or ever again, so it might be worth holding off for us – though it did come up in one of the first three purchases.

    Best,
    john.

We’re very happy to help, John! 🙂 Just as you say, we quickly found it to be more of a complex issue once we paused to consider all the ramifications.

Thank you for suggesting it on UserVoice. We love it when our customers help us to understand how we can make our plugins more useful and overall more valuable to them! 🙂

By the way, if you have a minute or two, we will love it if you would write a few words for us here:

    Thanks in advance. 🙂
