Hi,
The filter is showing properly only on the main Events page here:
http://tinychefs.staging.wpengine.com/events/I would also like it to show on a page that only shows the Camp category. I have tried the list , month and map views and the filter bar does not show: http://tinychefs.staging.wpengine.com/camps/
[tribe_events view=”map” category=”camp”]Can you please advise? I know the filter does not work with shortcodes, but believe it should work with views?
Thank you.
February 12, 2018 at 3:00 am #1450444CourtneyMemberHey Tara! Always good to find a friendly face in here.
Are you tucking these links into the menu? If so, a workaround for now would be to use Filter Bar to make the link with the filters already applied: http://tinychefs.staging.wpengine.com/events/map/?tribe_eventcategory=99.
Or the same link without using filter bar: http://tinychefs.staging.wpengine.com/events/category/summer-camp/map/?tribe_eventcategory=99.
I do understand that you are aiming for showing filter bar with the camp category. Did you need help with the shortcode anywhere? Just making sure I follow all the details here.
How was the /camps link determined? http://tinychefs.staging.wpengine.com/events/category/camp/ is the expected category link, and Filter Bar does work there. I’m wondering if the permalink structure is factoring in to this. Or – is the /camps a page with a shortcode (where Filter Bar would not be expected to work)?
Thanks

Thanks! The camps page is a page I made and inserted the view code there.
I didn’t realize there are auto generated pages for the categories! Aha. That helps.
Thank you.
So is my page title the issue (from a confusing permalink standpoint), or is inserting views in a new page like [tribe_events view=”map” category=”camp”]
not going to support the filter bar?February 12, 2018 at 3:13 am #1450463Tara ClaeysParticipantOne more tricky thing … the custom field I added for age – I changed the name from Age Range to Age and that is not updating on the filter bar front end? I looked in the database for it but can’t find it
February 12, 2018 at 12:10 pm #1450995CourtneyMemberHey Tara
Yep, The Events Calendar and its relatetd products are full of generated pages, whether the main /Events page, or tags, categories, venues, organizers, etc.
The shortcode will not support Filter Bar. I’m hoping our developers will have that implemented in the near future, but as of yet, I haven’t heard an exact date on that. https://tribe.uservoice.com/forums/195723-feature-ideas/suggestions/17840326-make-filter-bar-compatible-with-shortcoded-calenda is our place to vote on that, and to be notified when we make that available.
For the additional fields name change, after changing the name at Events » Settings » Additional Fields; you’ll need to also change it in Events » Settings » Filters » Age » Title. That should get it renamed on the front end as well.
Let me know if that works for you.
Thanks
Courtney 🙂February 12, 2018 at 1:56 pm #1451103Tara ClaeysParticipantThat does work, thank you. I have a few more questions …
1) If I set the default format for events to “month” and then want a list for a category page (Camps) … I created this custom url: http://tinychefs.staging.wpengine.com/events/category/summer-camp/list/?tribe_eventcategory=116
And added that to the Menu (because if I choose the Camps Category as a Menu item, it shows as a calendar since that is the default). Is this the only way to do this? That URL is ugly and also I notice the “Active” page highlighted in the Menu is still the Events page….3) Is there a way to show the ages field in the description that shows in a list view?
4) Where can I add intro text on top of a Category page… the description does not show up. I suppose I need to create a custom template?
Thank you!
February 12, 2018 at 2:01 pm #1451109Tara ClaeysParticipantAlso I don’t see an option in the filter to sort/choose by Month – only day and time?
February 13, 2018 at 1:24 pm #1452238CourtneyMemberI’ll check in with a few team members to see if we have a solution for which menu item is active.
#3 I do see the ages in list view now.
#4 Yes, a custom template would be needed. I’m asking around to see if we have any examples already started.
Month sorting – also looking to see if anyone has customized this.
Just remember when you move this live to change that custom link to the live domain custom link.
I’ll keep you posted on what I find.
Thanks
Courtney 🙂February 13, 2018 at 1:26 pm #1452244Tara ClaeysParticipantThank you so much!
February 14, 2018 at 1:03 am #1452550CourtneyMemberHey Tara
Before we sort out a snippet, I want to be sure we are understanding your goal on the menu. Is it that that menu item should only ever be selected if the user is on /events/ and nothing else (but what if Filter Bar is active and various filters have been applied)?
And you want intro text only if that filter category link is applied?
Thanks
Courtney 🙂February 14, 2018 at 3:03 am #1452633Tara ClaeysParticipantThanks!
I think I understand your question … what I am mainly looking for is
1) The Camps page to have the url xxx.com/events/camps
2) When on the Camps page, the Active Menu Item should be Camps, not Events
(in the top navigation)
3) Intro text for all Events would appear when user goes to xxx.com/events;
intro text for Camps appears when user goes to xxx.com/camps, etc.I see what you mean about what happens if the filter is applied and the
listing changes … if on the main Events page, someone chooses to filter
Camps, it would make sense that the user is still on the active page
Events, as the page itself does not change – if the url has to change when
the filer is applied that is ok. Similarly, as for what happens when filter
is selected, the intro content on that page does not change. This is not critical – of the 2 things, #2 and /#3 are probably the issues
that are more important to address if possible (this would also impact SEO
I think?), but now that I understand more about how your structure works,
it may not be possible.Hope that makes sense 🙂
Thank you!

Do you know why both VA and Virginia are showing in the Filter Bar:
https://cl.ly/poOCNo Events come up when “Virginia” is selected and I don’t know how to remove it.
When adding an address for a Venue, the dropdown has the full word for all states:
https://cl.ly/po58Can you please advise how to remove this from the filter bar?
Thanks!
February 27, 2018 at 6:25 pm #1465461CourtneyMemberHey Tara
I believe you are seeing both because both have been entered as locations, even in the past. The trick is finding a past event. When you select Virginia, and then “Past Events”, you can see which event & venues need to be modified: http://tinychefs.staging.wpengine.com/events/list/?tribe_paged=1&tribe_event_display=past&tribe_state%5B%5D=6346.
Change those and the Filter Bar should work itself out.
Thanks
Courtney 🙂PS – I won’t be making WordCamp Lancaster this weekend. Still a bit too much with 2 under 2.
February 27, 2018 at 6:46 pm #1465477Tara ClaeysParticipantThat worked – thanks!
Sorry to miss you this weekend. Thanks for your help.
