Hi, trying to link up a Facebook events page to bring the events over. I am required to run this single site on a multi site install environment unfortunately. Question, do I have to be a manager on the page to import the events successfully? Can’t seem to locate the requirements on this one. If no, I am stuck letting it run for hours and don’t get a preview at all. I have tried variations on the facebook page URL from the basic page URL to the events direct link to no avail. I haven’t deactivated plugins on the client account yet, but thinking since another plugin requires a multi-site install, this may be the issue. Deactivating one plugin may cause some serious issues I would rather avoid if it is a simple answer I am missing. I have tried to also remove and re-add the licensing already. Thoughts so far?

    Thanks,
    Aaron

I have also added the events to a page that I am an admin on, then attempted to import from that page as well with no success. Below is error log as well. Seems like it’s not picking up anything. Tried to disconnect and reconnect FB account prior to the event log below.

    Thanks for any help!

    Howdy Aaron,

That’s a good question. Basically Facebook limits you to importing events you manage, or public events. So you do not have to be a manager, but the event must be open to the public if not.

Would you mind sharing a link to some example events or pages you are trying to import from? You could do so in a private reply if you prefer. This might shed some light on why those imports are failing.

    Cheers!

I am very sorry Aaron, your post was mismarked on our end as waiting on you. My apologies for the belated response.

Thank you for sharing the URL. I was able to import events from that page. As you seem to suspect, there is probably something more generally broken on your install.

I did try to scan a site with Ical – I don’t think it will work, but the same results – the plugin seems to just spin there for hours and not update anything. I thought about uninstalling and reinstalling the plugin, but my concern is I had added a number of events and venues prior to exploring the aggregation method and really don’t want to have to start all over. I suppose I could export from the DB and re-import if needed. Thoughts?

Good question. You will not lose any data doing an uninstall/reinstall. Doing that could not hurt at this point, it would be a smart thing to try and see if it makes any difference.

I think it is quite possible that there is a JavaScript error in your browser console when you try importing. Typically these show up when a loading spinner never stops. Do you know how to use your browser console, if so can you share the error here?

If you don’t would it be possible to create a new, temporary, admin account for me to login with? I can then login to your site, try previewing a facebook import, and presumably I too will see the infinite spinner. From there I can examine the browser console for errors, and see if there are any malformed ajax responses being sent.

    Would that work?

    Cheers!

Ahh excellent! Sorry for the hassle. But I am able to login now. When I logged in I saw the same problem as you, and when I checked the browser console I saw an error as well.

Upon further investigation your site is running an outdated version of jQuery. This might be part of the problem. WordPress comes with the latest version, but sometimes plugins or a theme will override that version and load an old one. Basically they change the default to fill their own needs, but in so doing risk breaking stuff for everything else on the site. That might be the issue here. It’s worth doing a conflict test at this point and trying to narrow it down. If we can isolate what is conflicting, it’s possible that simply unhooking something or another simple solution will cause it to use the latest jQuery and work well with The Events Calendar. But first we need to find it.

    Cheers!
