Prior to installing the calendar plugins (regular+PRO), I already had “Events” in the admin sidebar. Upon activating the new plugins, a new “Events” appears in the admin panel with no event and no categories. If I set the plugin with different URL slugs (other than event, events) is this ok to do this? (http://screencast.com/t/lTl4q6eWmpMw)

Is it necessary to disable custom post type from the theme?

I’m guessing something else – a plugin or your theme – is doing something there, as that secondĀ Events menu item is not generated by our plugin.

Is it necessary to disable custom post type from the theme?

So do you know that your theme is responsible for that second menu? If so, then it’s really up to you. If it doesn’t create any functional problems and you don’t mind it being there then you could certainly leave it be.

    Does that answer your question?

Yes, the church related theme created a custom post type “Events” – it existed when I installed The Events Calendar plugins. This is why there are two. It seems if I leave the existing events as-is and change the default URL base for the new plugin to use something like cal/calendar (other than event/events which conflicts with the existing events) then everything will work just fine.

I guess if I contact the theme developer with this they can tell me how to deactivate the custom “events” and they would then appear in the plugin events instead?

You would need to contact the developer. Since the actual post type is probably something different to our own (despite sharing the same label of “Event”/”Events”) and will have different meta data it may require a little more work to pull them into The Events Calendar, but that would be a conversation to have with your developer.

Since I think there’s not too much else we can offer you on this one I’ll go ahead and close this thread. If you have questions or need help with anything else, please don’t hesitate to create new threads as needed.

    Thanks!
