ParticipantHey
We’ve found that the Event Calendar Pro causes a massive resource on the server when you hit the main calendar.
/events-calendar/
In fact, it takes the site out completely – and its not just us.We only have 64 events and no other plugin issues.
By uninstalling Events Calendar Pro and using the free version, the resources are unchallenged and the calendar loads immediately.
So the problem is clearly in the events-calendar-pro.phpThe free version – you can’t have shortcodes and woo tickets.
Guys, please take a look and see why this would cause issues – we’ve got live clients here…

MemberHi Paul,
Man, I’m so sorry for the trouble here and am more than happy to look into this with you.
I’d be interested to see the system information for your site. Will you please grab it from the Events > Settings > Help page and paste it in here (as a private reply) for me to review? The fact that you only have 64 events and performance issues with PRO activated makes me wonder if we can find any red flags right out of the gate in that data.
Also, are any of those 64 events set up as recurring events? If so, would it be possible to link us over to one of them? Again, just want to get some context and try to rule out any glaring issues.
Sorry again for the trouble and thanks for your help while we figure this out!

No, there are no recurring events.
Each event is a single event.Paul

MemberHi Paul and thanks for the system info!
Shoot, I see absolutely nothing fishy in here. I even ran it by an extra pair of eyes just to be sure and everything looks clean.
Are you by chance able to allocate more server memory to PHP? I don’t think PRO on its own uses a ton of memory, but I’m wondering if perhaps the server itself is on the brink of reaching its memory limit and extending that number would give things more breathing room.
Let’s start there and see what we find.

ParticipantFellas,
We have worked out the issue for the massive resource use!! Hurrah.
We are using Enfold. Top theme.
We were using shortcodes in the description editor.
If the Event does not have an ‘Excerpt’ it will try to display the shortcode info in the ‘Tooltip’ on the main calendar. This will inevitably cause the calendar to fail.
And – use 100% resources to do so.
Phew.

MemberOh wow, great work digging that up! That’s an awesome find and I’m stoked to hear of it. I’ve shared that with the team here and will be sure to keep that on our radar in case other reports of this come up. Thanks a ton for reaching out and letting us know!
