Mike
ParticipantHi guys
I\’m pretty sure this feature doesn\’t exist yet, but would be an excellent and very useful addition.
Event shortcodes!
To be able to have a list of upcoming events in a post or page, would be extremely useful to many people I\’m sure.
eg:
[events category=xyz limit=4]I\’ve been lucky that a very clever fellow named Seth did the hard work for me
and I\’ve been able to make use of his function and paste it in my child theme functions.php, and it works great. Just need to style it now.
But this is exactly what needs to be in the core.
Cheers

MemberExcellent to see you found a workaround here, Mike. I know that at one point (before I was on board) something about the plugin was such that shortcodes weren’t possible. Not sure if that’s changed yet but let me see if any of our devs can comment.

Participantthe plugin really NEEDS shortcodes.

ParticipantIt would be nice if you could add some formatted text using page controls before the calendar. Shortcodes would go a long way to being able to do this.

MemberHey Jeff. Thanks for the note. To your second point, couldn’t you use the before/after HTML options on the settings page to do this?
As for the first: this certainly may change, but when developing the plugin we opted to go with template tags instead of shortcodes, and have continued down that path as it allows generally the same degree of flexibility. Since our plugin rewrites the content loops shortcodes weren’t a viable option. Have you checked our template tag documentation to see if it meets your needs (https://theeventscalendar.com/support/documentation )?

ParticipantRob… in my case I can’t use the before and after fields because the client who has to use the site does not know html. (as most end users do not)
I’ve been giving the tags a try.

MemberAh, alright – thanks for confirming Jeff. If upon jumping into the tags you’ve got questions please let us know and we’ll do what we can to assist.
