    Hi,

I have tried to install the new versions of events calendar pro and Advanced Post Manager with the german translation but eventually I decided to revert back to the pre 3.10 version because of inconsistencies in the translation.

The problem with crowd sourcing the translations are two-fold:

    1) they are not consistent.

    2) They do not take the context into consideration.

For instance: “upcoming”. Could be anstehend, bevorstehend, kommend. Past events could be: vergangene, vorherige, vorige. Someone has to decide which phrase to take and then use it troughout the translation. This is not the case here.

Same with context: it seems that the phrases have been translated in an isolated setting. But you have to look at the layout element where they appear. A translation can be wrong in another context, and this is what happend here in several cases.

    What to do?

I am afraid, you have to assign one german speaking person to have a look at all of the translations and streamline this.

    Best regards,
    Fridolin.

    Hey,

Thanks for reaching out to us!

These are definitely some great points and I can definitely understand the frustration that these inconsistencies have caused. It sounds like this is something that has gotten worse with the introduction of our new way of approaching translations via http://translations.theeventscalendar.com?

All of our translations have always been community driven, however it seems like lowering the barrier for making modifications may have some other issues that we’ll need to look into. I’ll note this for our team to discuss and look at ways we can provide better consistency for our translations.

    Thanks!

    Hey Birgit,

Would you mind opening a new ticket with this question, it is a different issue than the original post and we request that each issue get it’s own thread so we’re able to address each user directly and fully.

    Thanks!

    Hi there,

My German clients have noticed several inconsistencies with their translations as well (I believe this is related to recent updates/changes).

For instance, instead of the German “Alle Veranstaltungen”, the phrase is half English, half German: “All Veranstaltungen”. Instead of “Veranstaltungskategorien” it says “Veranstaltungen categories”. Instead of
“Ähnliche Veranstaltungen” it says “Related Veranstaltungen”. Is there an easy fix to this and/or do you think this is something that will be fixed soon?

    Thanks so much!
    Lisa

Hey Lisa (as well as all others on this thread 🙂 ),

You can update those untranslated strings that you’ve mentioned on our translation site at http://translations.theeventscalendar.com.

We are looking into a way to increase the quality and consistency of our translations by seeking volunteers from the community to act as overseers of certain translations. If you are interested in being a point person to help review changes to language files, we would be happy to compensate with coupons and discount codes for free copies of our products.

Let me know if anyone on this thread would be interested.

    Thanks!
