ParticipantWhen you create a recurring event which has lots and lots of recurrences, the generation of these recurrences happens in the background (see this screenshot: http://imgur.com/f7y0sCk).
Are there any plans to do something similar for removing a series which contains a ton of events? Right now, once you get to a certain number of events you’re trying to delete at once, it can cause WP to stall out before everything is deleted.

ParticipantHey @sitecrafting,
It’s a great idea and we do have improvements planned in general; I can’t speak to a specific UI that is similar to the original generation UI, but improvements are indeed planned.
Let me know if this helps at all and/or if there’s anything else I can help with!
Thanks,

ParticipantThat’s great to hear! I don’t suppose there’s a timeline you can share for this sort of improvement? Just to give us an idea of how long it might be before we see it in action?

ParticipantI’m sorry @Sitecrafting, but I unfortunately do not have a timeline or a specific ETA for this feature 🙁 I’m not being intentionally obtuse here, we just have many other features that are taking priority over this for now.
One thing that might help, in the meantime, is admittedly not the slick graphic UI of the events data generation stuff. But you might find some luck by using a plugin like this one → https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-crontrol/
This lets you manually run “WP Cron” jobs, one of which is called “tribe-recurrence-cron” which checks for new events to add and old events to delete. If you manually run this cron, it MIGHT help with deleting some old, unused event instances based on these settings in your wp-admin page at Events > Settings:

If you shorten the “cleanup recurring events after” option to something like 1 month, it may make a difference on your site and help keep the load of recurring events in the past to only show events in the past few weeks, with anything beyond that being deleted.
I hope all this helps!

ParticipantThanks, good to know. This specific situation was the product of a recurring series with lots of events which just needed to be completely removed, so I don’t think the WP Control plugin would help this time. I’ll make a note of it for future reference though. I just ended up writing queries to strip out the data on my own. This fixed the immediate issue, but I was more concerned with addressing situations like this in the future.
Thanks for the info, I think I’ll consider this as resolved as it’s going to get for now and just wait to see feature you mentioned in a future release.

ParticipantSounds good, @Sitecrafting – thanks for elaborating on things a bit, and for being cool about waiting for the inclusion of better support for the sort-of bulk deletion you’re looking for in a future release of the plugin…
Should you need or want help with anything else, open a new thread on the forums here any time! 🙂
Cheers,
