ParticipantHi. We love the Events Calendar. I’ve used it for many projects, and been decently successful in modifying certain views for my themes, such as the Single Event view. However, I’d really like to create a template which will display the event archives (probably just in list view) and also allows me to insert content on top of that via a page’s visual/html editor.
On another site, http://fhapdx.wpengine.com/workshops/schedule/, I’ve used the shortcode to insert the widgetized and simplified version, but I’d like the much better list and photo view.
I understand that you may not be able to support customization requests, but if there’s at least some documentation you could refer me to, I’d be most appreciative. I’ve read the themer’s guide thoroughly and can’t find this info there. Thank you for your guidance.

MemberHi there Todd,
Thanks for reaching out! Let me say your question is actually pretty interesting and something our users usually ask about.
We are looking forward to add new shortcodes for events views. This will allow main event views to be embedded in pages just like widgets. This is slated to be included in the upcoming release 4.2 (this is the actual roadmap but it might change along the way). Unfortunately, at the time there’s no easy way of doing so 🙁
For now I would recommend the widget approach. You can create a template override of the widget views to add more info, a features image, and of course customize the look & feel. Do you think this might work for now?
If so these links might help you out:
- Configuring the list widget
- Add event content to an event widget
- Add thumbnails to upcoming events in list widget
Please let me know about it,
Best,

ParticipantHi Nico,
Thank you for the articulate answer to my question.
Do you have any idea of when you’ll be releasing 4.2? I’d rather not have to make more customisations than necessary.

MemberHi Todd,
Yeap it might be a good idea to wait for this to be released if you are not needing it with urgency. Release 4.2 is scheduled for mid May – beginning of June.
Other thing that might work for you is to add the content before events in Photo View? Or you want to keep photo view as it is and create other page with the embed?
Please let me know if that would help,
Have a great weekend,

Participantusing the setting for “HTML before event content” through wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=tribe_events&page=tribe-common&tab=display does put the same content on both the archive pages, and each individual event, so that’s not going to work as a solution unfortunately. I’ll just wait patiently for the new shortcodes in 4.2
Thank you.
