ParticipantAfter updating to 4.4, the Edit All screen for all my events shows “same time” in my recurring events rules, instead of the times I initially inserted. In the attached example, every single recurring event says “An event every week that begins at 5:30PM on Sunday, repeating until June 26, 2017” when it should be 5:30PM on some dates, 1:00PM, 12:00PM, etc, on others.
I cannot edit any events without manually updating every single recurring instance. Is there a way to fix this?

ParticipantHey @Ventrice,
I’m really to sorry to hear about this!
I cannot recreate this problem.
1. What version of The Events Calendar and Events Calendar Pro did you upgrade from? Were you using version 3.11 of Events Calendar Pro, for example, then updated straight to 4.4?
2. If you create a NEW test event with the rules you want to happen—”30PM on some dates, 1:00PM, 12:00PM, etc, on others”—do these rules get generated correctly? Are there any issues here, or are there only issues with pre-existing events that you set up before you updated The Events Calendar and Events Calendar Pro to 4.4?
Thanks!

I’m not sure, but it’s been a while since we’ve updated. How can I check to be sure?

To be clear, the data in the calendar view currently shows up fine – it is the Edit screen that cannot interpret the data, resulting in all fields reverting to “same time” as the the first event in the series. Generating a new event with new rules works fine. Updating the pre-existing event with rules is also fine, but obviously I do not want to have to manually update every single pre-existing event again.
Let me know if you need more information!

ParticipantThanks so much, Ventrice.
You say this in your reply above:
Generating a new event with new rules works fine. Updating the pre-existing event with rules is also fine
Just to be totally clear, since you mention that the only problem is in the Edit screen, when you say that new event with new rules work fine and that updating the pre-existing events with rules is also fine, by “fine” do you mean that the Edit screen gets updated and looks totally normal and correct?
Thanks!

ParticipantIf I go to the Edit screen for a recurring event that was created pre-4.4,
the Edit screen does not populate the Recurrence rules correctly. I can,
however, update each rule within the event manually, and it will save with
the dates and times that I expect. The updated rules propagate as expected
and show correctly if I open the Edit screen again. If I start a new post-4.4 event with new rules, it will also save with the
dates and times that I expect. The problem is that I do not want to update each and every rule manually
for pre-4.4 events. Does that make more sense?January 27, 2017 at 10:25 am #1225284George
ParticipantHey @Ventrice,
Thanks for the clarification here. It totally makes sense, and I’m trying to think of a way to facilitate the updating of all of the event information without you having to do it manually.
I’m not able to recreate this problem, however, so that’s one issue here.
There are two main courses of action I can think of here—neither is ideal, so I do apologize for that and for the general trouble here. But here are some thoughts about how to proceed:
- The first option here would be to manually go through any affected event with these issues and do what you say you (understandably!) don’t want to do: update each affected event’s rules and save the changes. I understand this is far from ideal but is an effective method for updating the event data on your site.
- The second option I can think of would be to sit tight and let us take some time to first see if we can even recreate your issues. If we can recreate your issues, then we can possibly identify the cause for this issue and write a code snippet that you can use on your site which would help with this update process and do it automatically for you, so you don’t have to manually update each event.
If you’re interested in the second option above, then as noted this could unfortunately take some time—several business days, at least. (It’s Friday as I type this, so the weekend coming up is another thing to factor into the timeline for this).
Also, if you’re interested in the second option there, it would be very helpful for us if you could share an export of your site’s database with us. This will let us test with basically the exact same information you have, which will help us make an effective solution.
If you’re not familiar with getting a database export for your site, you should be able to contact your web host’s support team and request one—they’ll either provide one for you or list exact steps for doing it on their platform.
Once you have the database export, you can upload it to a site like Google Drive, or Dropbox, or something similar—then share a link to this publicly-downloadable file and we’ll download it.
Just be sure to post that link in a “Private Reply” here on the forums so that only you and us on the support team can access it. 🙂
Apologies for the length of this reply—just wanted to cover what options there are and what implications each option has on your time.
Let us know how you’d like to proceed!
Sincerely,

KeymasterHey there! This thread has been pretty quiet for the last three weeks, so we’re going to go ahead and close it to avoid confusion with other topics. If you’re still looking for help with this, please do open a new thread, reference this one and we’d be more than happy to continue the conversation over there.
Thanks so much!
