ParticipantHello, I tried sending this request via your contact form using “Hire Modern Tribe” but the reply came back asking me to post this in the forums instead. It doesn’t really make sense to me seeing as though I’ve been told that heavy customization cannot be supported via the forum. We’re interested in hiring someone for the following:
1. We a category dropdown added to the search bar. We need all categories except ID 23.
2. We’d like a dropdown of venues to appear as well.
3. Also need to change the date separator from ‘ @ ‘ to ‘ at ‘ globally (list, single event, related event, widget, etc).Would you please quote these as separate requests? We’ll definitely need the category dropdown but please add the venue dropdown as an additional line item in your quote. In other words, how much extra time is it to add in the venue dropdown after you give us the category dropdown? It should go without saying that the dropdowns need to be hooked into the search by date fields as well.
Thanks!

MemberHi inhouse,
It may simply be that this is too small of a task for Modern Tribe to take on as a project at this time and the team member responding to your message probably felt we could at least point you in the right direction here on the forum 🙂
1. We a category dropdown added to the search bar. We need all categories except ID 23.
2. We’d like a dropdown of venues to appear as well. We’ve got a number of tutorials you could refer to that may be useful here, including this one in particular which looks at the Tribe Events Bar.
3. Also need to change the date separator from ‘ @ ‘ to ‘ at ‘ globally (list, single event, related event, widget, etc).
Here is an example of how you can change the date formatting in a number of cases – and you could drop that code into your theme’s functions.php file. That snippet does a little more than you need, because you just want to replace the @ symbol, so you could simply strip out the following line (as it would not be needed):
$format['same_year_format'] = 'j F'; // Day then month for same year datesI hope that helps, but if you feel you still need a developer to work through this with you we can certainly provide a list of suitable freelancers and independent devs who can assist further.
Thanks!

ParticipantThanks for the quick reply @barrykenobi .
My #3 is resolved thanks to your code.I read through a bunch of tutorials and forum threads on how to accomplish #1 and 2 and am coming up short. I can add the required fields manually but have no idea how to hook them up to the search. I would also like the dropdowns populated dynamically instead of manually do that when categories and venues change, the dropdowns do as well.

MemberGlad you figured out #3 🙂
For the rest we can really offer only guidance – in the form of tutorials – but really it’s something you would need to drive forward without our help: the reality is we just don’t have enough bandwidth to help with every request for in-depth customizations like this one.
Would you like a list of freelancers/devs who you could contact for further assistance?

ParticipantI completely understand not being able to handle everyone’s customization questions. That’s why I chose to contact you via the contact form requesting a proposal. Yes, please send me a list of recommended devs who are experienced with this plugin. We work with other devs but I would think the cheapest route would be to work with someone who knows the plugin well. Honestly I’m really surprised Tribe isn’t interested in paid work like this. It seems like it would be a huge money maker since questions like mine are so simple and have been done a million times before. Thanks again for your help!

MemberSure – but it does also come with quite a bit of overhead attached. At any rate and without further ado, here is a list of some folks we recommend (in no particular order):
- WerkPress (http://www.werkpress.com) – customization based projects with minimums of $500-$800
- Chris Miller (http://launchbrigade.com) – $125 consultation required before providing an estimate
- Nick Ciske (http://thoughtrefinery.com/) – minimum fee depends on project type
If you need a cheaper solution, you might check out some of these listings:
Hopefully the above will help you find someone to work on your site. Good luck … and I’ll go ahead and close this now.
