I just set up a clean WP install (3.3) and ECP (2.0.9). It seems to me the Events URL slug is only read upon plugin activation… so if you change it in the Settings page, it will give a 404 until you deactivate/reactivate the EC plugin. I tested this and it seems to be consistent – perhaps something the devs should look at?
