MemberHi Michael, welcome to the support forum! Thanks for getting in touvh and I hope you’re enjoying the plugin so far. 🙂
You can specify how closely you want Google Maps to zoom in by default by heading over to Settings > General, and setting the “Google Maps default zoom level” field to a higher number. The default is 10 and the maximum is 21. The map will automatically center on the exact address for the location of the current event.
Does that make sense? Will that work for you? Please let me know.
Cheers!

ParticipantHi Geoff,
sorry, that doesn’t help me. I am located in Germany. And if someone chooses “View as map” and the map shows africa that is not so nice. How ca i set the startmap to a local town?
Thanks1

MemberIt looks like the link you sent is the map for a category with no upcoming events. The plugin tries to calculate the approximate center based on your venue locations, though it may fail in some circumstances. Note that the plugin also stores its calculations, so it may be slightly behind the actual data of your venues. If you’re using a caching plugin, it’s also possible that the data could essentially be frozen and needs to be flushed.
Still, if there are no upcoming events in a given category (as in your case), then the map still ought to default to something local to what the plugin has stored in the data. I wonder if you could share an export of your venue data (using the default WordPress export tool) and share it with me in a private reply? That would help me see if there’s an issue with the actual data.
Also, I see you have noted:
Deactivated all other plugins? Yes
Switched to a default theme? No (or unknown)Are you able to try switching to a default WordPress theme, like TwentyThirteen? It’s possible there is a conflict with the current theme. If the issue disappears with TwentyThirteen, then we are closer to an answer. 🙂
Thanks!

ParticipantHi
i did 2 things.
1st: live-preview on actuall-website (www.metropoljournal.de). Result see screenshot. http://metropoljournal.de/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/Bildschirmfoto-2014-09-17-um-11.29.48.jpg
2nd: my test-website (www.werbung.metropoljournal.de)– switched to Theme 2013: http://metropoljournal.de/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/Bildschirmfoto-2014-09-17-um-11.35.37.jpg
both don’t work.

MemberThanks for testing the theme, Michael! That’s super helpful.
This is really odd. I’ve been testing this on my end as well and haven’t been able to replicate the same issue.
The map display for our plugin is controlled entirely by the Google Maps API and we don’t have any more control other than passing in the data you input. Google Maps does all the generating. If the map is that far off, then Google Maps is either generating the data incorrectly or there is data being passed to it that is causing it to do so. Are there any other WordPress settings or other plugin settings you may have set that would affect the default location?

ParticipantHi Geoff,
all, really all Plugins are deactivated except the the two:
Veranstaltungskalender Deaktivieren | Bearbeiten | Einstellungen | Kalender The Events Calendar is a carefully crafted, extensible plugin that lets you easily share your events. Beautiful. Solid. Awesome. Version 3.7 | Von Modern Tribe, Inc. | Unterstützung | Alle Erweiterungen (Add-Ons) ansehen
The Events Calendar PRO auswählen he Events Calendar PRO Deaktivieren | Bearbeiten | Einstellungen
The Events Calendar PRO, a premium add-on to the open source The Events Calendar plugin (required), enables recurring events, custom attributes, venue pages, new widgets and a host of other premium features. Version 3.7 | Von Modern Tribe, Inc. | Support | Alle Add-Ons anzeigenAlso in the Map i can’t search for Events. The result is always the same: No matching events listed under “ausstellung-veranstaltungen”. Please try viewing the full calendar for a complete list of events.
Can you solve this problem for me? Please!

MemberHi there Michael,
Will you please open a new thread for the search issue? I want to try to get to the bottom of the map issue in this thread. 🙂
Are you able to re-enable the Map View in Events > Settings > Display? It looks like it was turned off between threads and it would help to troubleshoot with it back on.
- Are you on a shared hosting plan? Sometimes the Google Maps API will stop working if the Google query limit has been exceeded and this can be a result of some shared hosts.
- Secondly, I suggest confirming that the venue addresses are complete and correct. You can try installing the Event Rocket plugin (not supported by us), which will display the latitude/longitude coordinates in a meta box in the venue editing screen. If the coordinates are not displaying or are incorrect, then that suggests Google’s API is not reading the data correctly.
- Lastly, do you see an option in the Events > General settings to build venue location data? Sometimes data for pre-existing venues can be lost when upgrading to the PRO plugin, and this option will help regenerate it.
Sadly, these are the only three options I have for you because of the lack of control we have with the Google Maps API. But give them a shot and let me know if they help out.
Thanks!

ParticipantHi Geoff,
I’m chiming in with the same problem. I have Events Calendar PRO and Event Rocket installed. The coordinates box shows 0, 0.
Unfortunately, I don’t see the option to regenerate location data in General Settings. It wo be so cool to have it…October 18, 2014 at 9:07 am #817596werbeagenturlauf
ParticipantHi Goeff,
the only solution was to give up the map ;-(October 20, 2014 at 3:24 pm #822655Geoff
MemberSorry to hear that, Michael, but thanks for following up. I’ll go ahead and close this thread, but will keep my eyes open to see if anything else like this pops up so we can try to replicate it. Please feel free to hit us up with a new thread if anything else pops up and we’d be happy to help. 🙂
Cheers!
