I applied the update successfully a couple of days ago from 3.0.1 to 3.1.  Everything as fine, the upgrade went as they always do.  Several hours later, I needed to restore the site from backup.  I pulled the image from the wp-engine archive from the last known good point, which was before the 3.1 upgrade was applied.
