    My people don’t like change, and they especially don’t like change when it’s NOT intuitive. Tags were never an option for people before, and I’d like to hide that. Categories, honestly, should be a radio button because otherwise events are tagged with everything – even categories they’re not in – because promoters/organizers just want to get the most exposure (cast a wide net). I dislike greatly that the taxonomy has changed based on what you think is more intuitive, when it’s not obvious to people who’ve gotten used to using this plugin.

    Hi, Sarah.

    With the situation of event creators “spamming” via categories and tags, limiting the choices would definitely be a great feature.

    All our selections are either already this Select2 type of field that you see now or likely will be in the future… so the best I can recommend is trying to find reasons to like it.

    That being said, for this use case, limiting the allowed choices is a great idea. I looked into Select2 and it actually has this functionality: https://select2.org/selections#limiting-the-number-of-selections

    Unfortunately, that documentation applies to a version newer than the version we’re including in our plugin and therefore you cannot use that nifty option. I’ve filed an internal feature request to update the version of Select2 that’s included so that this Select2 option can be utilized via the Community Events form.

    Until then (which likely won’t be anytime soon for unrelated reasons), I suggest referencing https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/required-fields-for-events-submission-form/ and maybe add some validation there. I know you can require the field, but I’m unsure if that’ll also let you do additional checks on it like failing validation if more than X event categories are selected.

    To remove the Tags field, follow my “#2” in my reply to that other thread you linked to: https://theeventscalendar.com/support/forums/topic/bring-back-checkboxes-for-event-categories-remove-event-tags-cost/#post-1359342

    Hi Sarah!

    Just wanted to share with you that a new release of our plugins is out, including a tweak for Community Events that allows you to limit the number of terms assigned to a taxonomy (tags and categories) in the frontend submission form.

    As an example, you could customize the events-community/src/views/community/modules/taxonomy.php template and add a data-maximum-selection-size=”1″ attribute to the tribe-dropdown input so it limits to only one term per taxonomy.

    Find out more about this release → <u>https://theeventscalendar.com/maintenance-release-week-15-april-2018/</u&gt;

    Don’t hesitate to open a new topic if anything comes up and we’ll be happy to help.

    Best,
    Victor
