How to Use Event Calendar Shortcodes

Event Calendar shortcodes are fantastic little pieces of code within WordPress that let you do lots of nifty things, especially with Events Calendar Pro.

What Do Shortcodes Do?

A shortcode is a shortcut – a way to execute code in posts, pages, and widgets on your WordPress site without having to write code directly in longer form.

Abbreviations are a useful analogy to help understand how shortcodes work. When you write out your grocery list, it’s entirely reasonable that you might abbreviate it as OJ instead of writing orange juice because OJ is shorter and faster to jot down. Similarly, shortcodes in WordPress allow you to abbreviate a section of code into a shortcode that can be used to save time and headaches.

Example:

Let’s say you’re writing a blog post about the locations for several of your upcoming events and you want to display our Featured Venue Widget within the post. You could manually add it into your post with several lines of code or you could go the much easier route of inputting the [tribe_featured_venue] shortcode instead. Much shorter, easier, and quicker, right?

Where Can You Find Event Calendar Shortcodes?

Generally speaking, you can find out which shortcodes are available for a given theme or plugin inside the product documentation or knowledgebase. We try to make things easy by listing all of our Events Calendar Pro shortcodes in one convenient place, along with tips and available arguments for each of them.

Full calendar view shortcodes are available with Events Calendar Pro. We also have widget shortcodes available for:

All of these widgets can be styled to fit your site aesthetics. In addition to our basic styling instructions, our Customization Archive is a great resource for customizing our plugins to meet your needs.

Yay Shortcodes!

As you can see, shortcodes make life much easier by allowing you to insert code easily and quickly without having to write it all out manually. They are especially useful when you need to use the same section of code in multiple places on your site, saving you time and reducing the risk of errors.

So give them a spin. And if you create something cool with one of our Events Calendar PRO shortcodes, let us know. We love sharing awesome examples of how different sites are using our plugins.
